Big Country Blitz 1A Preseason Defensive MVP: Parker Matlock
The first day of practice is finally here!
Games are still a few weeks away, but practice fields across the Lone Star State are filled with teams getting their seasons started.
Over the next two weeks, we will take a look at the best of the best in the Big Country, starting with Class 1A defense this week.
Westbrook’s Parker Matlock is the choice for the preseason defensive player of the year for the area, edging out Knox City’s Bryson Callaway, Hermleigh’s Kai Vargas, May’s Braden Steele, Rising Star’s Dakota Higgins, and Zephyr’s Karsen Floyd, among others.
Matlock was a 1st-team All-Region II selection at linebacker last season, racking up 98 tackles, 15 of those for loss, picking off six passes, recovering four fumbles, and forcing two more.
