*** Six-Man state championship Blitz Picks will be released on Tuesday, December 12

This will be a short one, as Albany is our final 11-man team and the only team playing this week.

#1 ALBANY (14-0) VS. SUNRAY (12-2) - THURSDAY, 6 P.M. - LOWREY FIELD, LUBBOCK

SERIES HISTORY: First meeting

The Lions got past Collinsville’s aerial assault with relative ease last week 52-14 and now get ready to face Sunray’s “Sun-Raid” offense.

Bobcat quarterback Armando Lujan, like Collinsville’s Logan Jenkins, has put up some amazing numbers this season: 4070 yards and 60 touchdowns passing and 968 yards and 20 touchdowns rushing.

But the Lions shut down the passing attack of Collinsville last week, just like they did against Miles in the regular season. I expect them to do enough to get past the Bobcats Thursday night as well and back to Jerry World to get a shot at defending their state title.

Sunray got here with a 67-6 win over Clarendon last week. They are the District 1-2A D2 runners-up to Gruver, whom they lost to 42-41 in October. That and a 23-20 week two loss to Stratford are Sunray’s only two losses this season. The Bobcats have had some big-time blowouts this year, including an 80-0 win over Dimmitt and an 81-0 win over Crosbyton.

While Albany is in the state semifinals for the third year in a row, this is the Bobcats first trip this deep since falling to Stratford in the 2004 semifinals. They also lost in the semi’s in 2003 to Windthorst and have never made the state championship game. Sunray fell to New Home 22-21 in the area playoffs last season.
