ROBY (3-2) AT IRA (3-2)

Ira leads series 4-0

At number ten, a district opener as Ira hosts Roby. The Lions surprised a lot of people by winning three of their first four games. They fell big to Baird their last time out and look to bounce back, while Ira lost a shootout at Loraine last week. Ira is the pick to defend its home field.

Jayton leads series 16-5

Number nine is a measuring stick game for Paint Creek at Jayton to kick off play in District 8. The Pirates have been impressive in winning five of six this season, but they’ll have to raise their game to a different level to hang with the top ranked Jaybirds. Jayton is the pick in this one.

ZEPHYR (5-1) AT RISING STAR (3-3)

Zephyr visits Rising Star in our number eight game of the week. The Wildcats welcome their old coach Derek Stevens to town and hope to beat up on the Bulldogs in this District 13 opener. Zephyr has won five of six this season, and their road to what they hope is a third straight district title will start with a win at Rising Star.

At number seven, a Miles team that was just in the state rankings heads to Albany. The Lions have beaten the Bulldogs by a combined 100 to 18 over the past two seasons. Miles is a good team, but Albany is the pick and still the team to beat in 7-2A Division II.

#5 HAWLEY (5-0) AT ANSON (4-1)

Anson is coming off its first loss of the year and will get a crack at 5th ranked Hawley in our number six game of the week. The Bearcats have won the last five in the series by an average of 41-7. This one should be closer, but Hawley is the pick.

At number five, another key game in District 8-1A Division II as Aspermont plays host to Rule. Both teams hope to be in the playoff mix when the regular season comes to an end, and the winner of this one will have a decided advantage. Both teams are coming off impressive victories.  Aspermont is the pick in one that should go the distance.

Our number four game of the week is a battle of unbeatens in the district opener between Blanket and Gustine. Before the season, not many would have predicted this one to be as big as it is, but the winner will have a leg up in what has turned out to be one of the more competitive districts in six-man football. Blanket is the pick to win this battle of Tigers.

Number three is another big game for Brownwood. The Lions roar into district play at Lampasas on a two-game winning streak. The Badgers are battle-tested at 5-1, but Brownwood is getting hot at the right time and the pick in this one.

Jim Ned heads to Comanche to kick off District 3-3A Division I action for our second biggest game of the week. Both teams have faced a tough schedule, but Jim Ned has battled well against three straight state-ranked teams. That should give them the edge to win a close one at Comanche.

The Loboes offense has been on a roll all season, the question is can their defense do enough to slow down Stamford. The guess here is no, and the #1 Bulldogs are the pick to win this key district opener,

The Wildcats are up to number ten in the latest FCS rankings and hit the road to Florence, Alabama to face North Alabama Saturday evening.

ACU knocked off previously #5 Central Arkansas 41-34 at home last week and lead the United Athletic Conference by a game over Tarleton State.

North Alabama has struggled to a 2-5 mark so far this season, but beat Utah Tech 60-14 at home last week to improve to 2-1 in conference play.

#6 HARDIN-SIMMONS (4-0, 1-0) AT #13 MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR (3-1, 1-0)- SATURDAY, 1 P.M

Mary Hardin-Baylor leads series 24-7

The first of two matchups between these perennial ASC powers is Saturday in Belton as Mary Hardin-Baylor looks to avenge a loss in Abilene a year ago. That snapped a nine-game Crusader winning streak in the series that dated back to 2015.

The Cowboys enter the game as the higher ranked team after their 35-27 win over then #9 Endicott at home last week. UMHB won at East Texas Baptist 42-28 last Saturday in its ASC opener.

HOWARD PAYNE (2-3, 0-1) AT EAST TEXAS BAPTIST (3-1, 0-1) - SATURDAY, 1 P.M

HPU leads series 10-9

The Yellow Jackets head east in search of their first ASC win, and should be feeling pretty good about themselves after taking care of Westgate Christian 75-0 last week.

The Tigers come in off their first loss of the season, a home defeat at the hands of UMHB.

MCMURRY (3-1, 3-0) AT CENTENARY (2-3, 2-1) - SATURDAY, 6 P.M.

First meeting in series

The War Hawks travel out of state to Shreveport, Louisiana to face Centenary for the first time.

Centenary is in its first season of official Division III play. The Gents brought back football after the college discontinued its team in 1947, and they are SCAC members with McMurry.

McMurry is the conference leader at perfect 3-0 and are coming off a bye week.

Centenary beat Lyon last week 35-14, a team the War Hawks handled 48-6 in Abilene on Sept. 14.

NMMI (2-3, 1-2) AT #11 CISCO COLLEGE (3-1, 3-0) - SATURDAY, 12 P.M.

The Wranglers are still the leaders atop the Southwest Junior College Football Conference at 3-0 and have a chance to get to 4-0 at home Saturday against New Mexico Military Institute.

Cisco College is up to #11 in the nation, still behind #9 Kilgore, a team they beat a couple weeks ago.

NMMI is coming off a 21-10 loss to Tyler.
