Hawley dominates in rematch with Cisco to advance + photo gallery
ABILENE, Texas — The third time was not the charm for Cisco as Loboes saw their season come to an end with a 40-7 loss to Hawley in the 2A Division I Region I championship game Friday night at ACU.
The Bearcats extended their winning streak to three over Cisco, and this was by far their most impressive victory.
Hawley jumped on the Loboes early, leading 14-0 at the end of the first and 28-0 by halftime thanks to a pair of Austin Cumpton touchdown runs and two Rodey Hooper touchdown tosses, one to Will Scott and another to Chandlin Myers.
If the game wasn’t put away at the half, Scott helped do so when he returned the second half opening kickoff for a touchdown to put the Bearcats more than comfortably ahead at 34-0.
Cumpton added his third scoring run in the fourth quarter and the Loboes got their lone score of the game when Hunter Long capped his fabulous career with a 15-yard touchdown run midway through the quarter.
Hawley (14-0) advances to meet Crawford (14-0) in the 2A D1 state semifinals Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Mineral Wells.
