State 7-on-7 wraps up in College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Eight Big Country teams made the trip to Aggieland to compete in the state 7-on-7 tournament that finished up Saturday afternoon.

Hawley made the deepest run of the schools, making it to the second round of the Division 3 championship bracket. The Bearcats beat Alpine 28-12 but fell to Millsap 21-14 in the next round. Miles went on to win the D3 championship with a 35-19 win over Brady. Stamford fell to Dublin 32-27 and Tolar topped Eastland 41-13 in first round action.

In Division 2 Breckenridge, Brownwood, Clyde and Jim Ned all bowed out in the first round. The Bucks fell to Anna 33-6, the Lions lost to Lago Vista 13-6, Clyde dropped a 21-14 decision to Dumas and Jim Ned fell 21-7 to Hamshire-Fannett. Hitchcock beat Lorena 33-6 to claim the D2 championship.

Abilene High went 0-3 in Division 1 pool play on Friday with a 30-6 loss to Dripping Springs, a 21-6 loss to Mesquite Horn and a 34-14 loss to Willis. That send the Eagles to the D1 Consolation bracket, where they fell to Crandall 26-20 Saturday morning. Frisco Wakeland went on to win the consolation bracket with a 26-20 victory of Katy Cinco Ranch. DeSoto claimed the D1 state championship in a 27-14 decision over Midlothian Heritage.
