Week 6 Rewind
OFF THE TOP
Things that caught my attention Friday night:
I think the win of the night belongs to Stamford, who stays unbeaten at Olney 22-13.
Aspermont may be a close second with a hard fought 38-24 win over Newcastle. Some said they were underdogs... others still picked them to win (and guessed right for once).
May also remains unbeaten with a 58-12 win at Burnet Smoking For Jesus.
Loraine loses to Benjamin but will be able to learn a lot about themselves. They went the distance in a 61-30 loss against a team that hadn't played past halftime this season.
Congrats to Cory McCombs for earning his first victory as head coach of Anson in the Tigers win at Colorado City.
Coleman and Cisco continue to impress, beating San Saba and Winters by a combined 109-6.
I'm surprised Roscoe lost 47-14 to Sunray. Injury issues for the Plowboys?
Tascosa is very good and will likely go undefeated in District 2-5A D1. Abilene High had no answers on offense against the impressive Rebel defense.

BIG COUNTRY A TO Z
Abilene High (2-4, 1-1) fell behind Tascosa on the second play from scrimmage and could not ever fully recover in a 36-14 loss to the #9 Rebels on the road.
Tascosa ran for 349 yards on the night, 186 of those and four touchdowns for running back Tayden Barnes to lead the way.
The Eagles pulled within 14-7 on a Dre Abril fumble return for a touchdown in the second quarter, but that was as close as they could get. The Rebels answered with two more touchdowns before the break and led 29-7 at the half. The Eagles got on the board again late in the fourth on a Dylan Slack to Trey Simpson touchdown pass, but it was too little, too late as AHS only picked up 144 yards of offense on the night.
Abilene Christian (4-1, 2-0) earned a second district victory in as many tries with an easy 69-22 victory over Midland Trinity.
The game was tied at 16 after the first quarter but the Panthers dominated from there, outscoring the Chargers 24-6 in the second quarter and and 29-0 in the second half to earn the mercy rule victory.
Albany (3-2) was off. The Lions will open district play at Miles this week.
Anson trailed Colorado City 6-0 at halftime, but turned it on in the second half to pull away for a 22-6 win — the first for Cory McCombs as head coach of the Tigers (1-5, 1-1).
The Wolves (0-6, 0-2) are still looking for their first win for new head coach Monty Leaf.
Tegen Saiz led the Tiger attack with 103 yards and a touchdown rushing. Tyler Wilburn ran for 54 yards and completed 5-10 passes for 30 yards. Elias Ramos caught all six Anson completions in the game for 54 yards.
Aedan Briseno notched the lone Colorado City touchdown and ran for 62 yards. Mayson Monroe threw for 212 yards and an interception.
Aspermont (6-0) stayed unbeaten with a 38-24 home win over Newcastle (4-2).
The teams were tied at 24 at the half but the Hornets scored the only points of the second half and shut out the Bobcats to win by two touchdowns.
The Hornets are unbeaten through six games for the first time since 2012.
Baird (3-2) played at home for the first time this season and sent the homecoming crowd happy with a 74-0 win over Amarillo Panhandle Christian Home Educators Association.
The Bears will take a two-game winning streak into district action next week at home against Perrin-Whitt.

The Bulldogs have won five in a row after dropping their first game of the season to Bronte.
Zephyr outgained Brookesmith 234 to 37, led by Jayden Millcan’s 141 yard, six touchdown rushing effort. Eathan Gowin added 48 yards and the Bulldogs’ other touchdown. Millican led the team with ten tackles as well.
Brownwood was doomed by a bad third quarter in a 42-21 loss at rival Stephenville.
The top-ranked Yellow Jackets (6-0) turned a 14-14 tie at the half into a 35-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lions (4-2) turned it over twice in the third and had a kickoff return for a touchdown called back by a penalty and saw Stephenville score a trio of touchdowns to pull away.
Brownwood was only outgained 415-379 by the high-powered Stephenville attack, but three turnovers for the Lions compared to zero by the Jackets were too much to overcome.
Ike Hall ran for 88 yards and threw for 232 with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Star Stephenville running back Tate Maruska was held to 108 yards and a score but also caught a 74-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Gafford.
