Week 15 Rewind
BIG COUNTRY A TO Z
Albany (12-2) has a shot to reach the state title game for a second straight season after crushing Collinsville 66-34 in Mineral Wells Friday night.
The Lions scored 21 points in the first quarter and 28 more in the second to hold a 49-21 halftime lead. Albany had over 500 yards by halftime and ended up with a season high 663 in the contest.
Cole Chapman played a part in seven touchdowns in the game, throwing for five and running for two more. He competed 15-19 passes for 314 yards and added 63 rushing in an outstanding all-around effort.
Coy Lefevre ran for 94 yards and a touchdown and caught six passes for 123 yards and two more scores. Adam Hill added 86 yards and a score, plus caught two passes for 26 yards and another touchdown. Cooper Fairchild (5 rec, 88 yds, 1 TD), London Fuentes (2 rec, 77 yds, 1 TD) and Samuel Rosas (65 yds rushing) were also offensive stars in the contest.
Lefevre led the Lions with 15 tackles and Jayden Lucas and Wyatt Windham each added 11.
Albany now gets New Home in the semifinals Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Sweetwater. The Leopards lost their season opener to Haskell 27-7 but have reeled off 13 straight wins, including a 35-20 upset of Wellington in the quarterfinals last week.
The third time was not the charm for Cisco (11-3) as Loboes saw their season come to an end with a 40-7 loss to Hawley (14-0) in the 2A Division I Region I championship game Friday night at ACU.
The Bearcats extended their winning streak to three over Cisco, and this was by far their most impressive victory.
Hawley jumped on the Loboes early, leading 14-0 at the end of the first and 28-0 by halftime thanks to a pair of Austin Cumpton touchdown runs and two Rodey Hooper touchdown tosses, one to Will Scott and another to Chandlin Myers.
If the game wasn’t put away at the half, Scott helped do so when he returned the second half opening kickoff for a touchdown to put the Bearcats more than comfortably ahead at 34-0.
Cumpton added his third scoring run in the fourth quarter and the Loboes got their lone score of the game when Hunter Long capped his fabulous career with a 15-yard touchdown run midway through the quarter.
Cumpton racked up 126 yards to go along with the trio of touchdowns and Rodey Hooper was a very efficient 9-12 passing 186 yards and two touchdowns. Myers (2 rec, 59 yds, 1 TD), Ramon (2 rec, 54 yds) Will Scott (3 rec, 57 yds, 1 TD) were his top targets in the passing game.
While Hawley seemingly held Long in check he still ran for 218 yards and threw for 58 to cap a great career as the quarterback for Cisco.
Hez Parker led the Bearcats with ten stops on defense, while Cumpton added eight, along with an interception, and Scott pitched in with seven.
Hawley advances to meet Crawford (14-0) in the 2A D1 state semifinals Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Mineral Wells.

Loraine (13-1) is state title game bound for the first time in school history thanks to an 86-38 victory over Oakwood in Dublin Friday night.
The Bulldogs got a pair of early touchdowns from Davion Walthall to grab an early 16-0 lead and never looked back. The Panthers got within 16-8 but turned the ball over on downs with an opportunity to get even closer or tie, and AJ Williams answered with two touchdowns to put Loraine up 28-8 after one quarter.
Oakwood got within 28-16 by halftime and 42-30 in the third quarter, but a 30-0 Loraine run put the Bulldogs ahead to stay. Oakwood scored one more touchdown but Loraine answered with two more scores to end the game via mercy rule.
Loraine gets another shot at Benjamin in the state title game on Dec. 14. The Bulldogs are the only team to go the distance against the Mustangs as they fell at home 61-30 in week six.
Westbrook (13-1) outlasted Happy 40-30 to advance to its second straight 1A Division I state championship game.
The Wildcats completed a two-game sweep of the Cowboys, beating them 62-16 in week one and in the much closer contest Friday night.
Happy made sure this one would not be a blowout. They trailed 8-6 after one and the score was even at 14 at the half.
The Wildcats scored the only points of the third quarter on a 44-yard Cedric Ware touchdown run and then pushed the lead to 28-14 on a two-yard Ware score with 5:44 left in game.
Happy got within a score again at 28-22 and 34-30 but a 35-yard Grayson Jeffrey touchdown run with 1:37 to play put the game away for Westbrook.
Ware ran for 174 yards and three touchdowns and caught three passes for 35 yards and another score, while Jeffrey ran for 63 yards with two trips to the end zone. Parker Matlock went 11 of 14 passing for 136 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also led Westbrook with 12 tackles and recovered a fumble. Jeffrey had eight and came up with an interception and a fumble recovery while Pahton Dominguez was his usual dominant self with five tackles, 2.5 of them for loss, and a sack. Ethan King also had five tackles and a sack.
Unbeaten Abbott now stands in the way of back-to-back titles for Westbrook. The two teams will meet Wednesday at 2 p.m. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington for the 1A D1 championship.
Wylie (10-4) could not complete yet another miracle comeback and fell 35-28 to unbeaten Argyle in the 5A Division II quarterfinals Friday night in Stephenville.
The Bulldogs led 14-7 at the half but could have had a bigger lead. They turned the ball over twice inside the Argyle red zone, once on downs at the one, and led by seven at the break.
Argyle scored the next 21 points of the game in the third and early in the fourth to build a 28-14 lead that Wylie could never quite recover from. The Bulldogs rallied and pulled within 28-21 and 35-28 but could not even the score, failing to recover an onside kick with just over a minute left to seal their fate.
KJ Long wrapped up a great senior season with 216 yards and three touchdowns passing. He ran for the Bulldogs’ other touchdown, giving him 44 combined touchdowns for the season. Landry Carlton led the team in rushing with 47 yards and Derrick Evans had a career night receiving with seven catches for 100 yards. Harrison Heighten added seven for 67 yards and a touchdown and Braden Regala capped an outstanding year with six grabs for 40 yards and a score.
Wylie’s ten wins are its most as a 5A program in a season by far and the most since they went 12-2 in 2016.
