Da’King Thomas and Abel Ramirez led the Warbird offensive attack yet again, as Thomas ran for 190 yards and three touchdowns on just 14 carries and Ramirez threw for 271 yards and a touchdown and ran for two more scores. The defense forced three turnovers, all interceptions, to help the Eagles win their seventh game in their last eight outings after an 0-2 start to the season. Abilene High finishes the regular season 7-3, 5-1, good for second place behind Midland Legacy in District 2-6A.

Ballinger jumped out to a 14-0 lead over Sonora but could not hold on, falling to the Broncos 28-21 to drop to the fourth seed out of 2-3A Division II in the playoffs. Sonora outgained the Bearcats 370 to 286 and scored the only two touchdowns of the second half to turn a 21-14 halftime deficit into a win. Ballinger will be in the playoffs for the seventh straight season.

Ballinger (5-4) vs Crane (8-2) - Friday, 7 p.m. - San Angelo Stadium

Bangs dropped its season finale at Brady 42-14 to end the year 1-8 overall and 1-4 in district play. The Dragons trailed just 21-14 at the half but the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half to get the victory.

Blackwell saw a three-game winning streak come to an end with a 61-36 loss to Loraine in a battle for the District 6-1A Division II championship. Both teams are still playoff bound, but Loraine enters as the district champion and avoids Balmorhea in the bi-district round. AJ Williams ran for 191 yards and four touchdowns and threw for 69 yards and two more scores to pace the Bulldog offense. Davion Walthall ran five times for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns and also caught a pass for a 44 yard score. Malaki Williams and Damion Delgado led the way on defense with 15 tackles apiece.

Breckenridge dominated TLCA San Angelo from the start on its way to a 61-0 victory that ended up getting them the #2 seed in the playoffs out of District 3-3A Division I. The Indians scored the only two touchdowns of the second quarter to build a 21-7 lead and held on for the victory. Early outscored Wall 14-0 in the fourth quarter to complete a come-from-behind 24-14 victory over the Hawks and earn the #3 seed from District 3-3A Division I in the playoffs. It is the Longhorns first victory over the Hawks since 2008 and puts them in a first round matchup against 7-3 Pilot Point — still a contender, but better than facing 10-0 and second ranked Brock. Tre Beam led the Horns on the ground with 126 yards, while Jaxyn Price threw for 185 yards and a touchdown and Tucker Hale threw the go-ahead touchdown pass, a 77-yarder to John-Stewart Gordon on a trick play early in the fourth quarter.

PLAYOFF PAIRING
Early (8-2) vs Pilot Point (7-3) - Friday, 7:30 p.m. - Saginaw High School

Eastland earned a second straight district championship with a thrilling 40-39 win at Dublin. The Mavericks fell behind 39-33 after Dublin scored late in the fourth, but a missed extra point proved to be the Lions downfall. Eastland scored on a Keaton Hicks touchdown run and booted the extra point that proved to be the game winner. Thanks to Millsap beating Jacksboro the Mavericks earned the outright district title and the top seed heading into the playoffs.

PLAYOFF PAIRING
Eastland (5-5) vs Wichita Falls City View (4-6) - Friday, 7 p.m. - Seymour

Hamlin proved to be no match for Roscoe as the Plowboys notched their ninth straight win, 61-0. Roscoe wasted little time taking control of this one, building a 52-0 lead by halftime. Jax Watts and Antonio Aguayo hooked up on four touchdown connections on the night, and Watts threw for 436 yards and six scores in the contest. The Pipers end the season 0-10 in their first year under Chris Evans, and the 28 points they scored are the fewest since 1933 when the team went 1-7 and scored 24 points. The Plowboys turned things around in a huge way this season, going from 1-10 in 2020 to 9-1 entering the playoffs in 2021.

Haskell spotted Stamford the first 14 points of the game but stormed back to beat the Bulldogs 37-20 to claim the #3 seed in the playoffs from District 3-2A Division I. Haskell’s playoff hopes were on life support after an 0-3 start to district play, but they knocked off Anson and Stamford in the final two weeks to earn a bid in their first season under Mitch McLemore. The Indians overcame four turnovers with a strong defense that held the Bulldogs to under 200 total yards. Stamford misses the playoffs in year one under Britt Hart, finishing 2021 with a 3-7 record.

PLAYOFF PAIRING
Haskell (4-6) vs Cisco (8-2) - Friday, 7 p.m. - Clyde

Hawley finally gave up a few points but battled past Forsan 24-21 to win the district championship, their fourth in a row. The Bearcats scored all their points in the first half and held Forsan to one second half score to hold on for the win. The Buffaloes limited Hawley to 256 total yards and ran for 240 of their own, but could not hold onto the ball, turning it over four times in defeat. Hawley’s shut out streak ends at six games, but the 42 points they allowed this season is by far the fewest in program history. Next closest is 102 points given up by the 1973 Bearcats in a 6-3 season under Jim Phillips.

The Raiders dominated from the start to wrap up district play with a 3-1 record, good for second place behind Throckmorton. Rule is back in the playoffs for the first time since 2016 thanks to a 55-6 win over Chillicothe. The Bobcats dropped a game to the Eagles in 2020 that would have put them in the postseason, now they get to celebrate and move on while Chillicothe breaks out the basketballs.

TLCA Abilene wrapped up its first season under Jeremy Kirk with a convincing 51-6 victory over Olfen. The Eagles finish the year 3-7 overall and 2-2 in district play, much improved over a winless debut season in 2020 that saw them only score six points.

Wylie did its part to stay in the playoff race with a 35-0 win at Plainview, but did not get the help needed from Wichita Falls to sneak in as the four seed from 3-5A Division II. The Coyotes and Canyon Randall join Lubbock Cooper and Wichita Falls Rider in the playoffs while the Bulldogs are on the outside looking in. Wylie dominated Plainview from the start, leading 7-0 after one, 21-0 at the half and 28-0 after three on the way to the win. The Bulldogs outgained Plainview 376 to 113, led by a 136 yard, three touchdown rushing effort by Trey Gomez. Wylie has missed out on the playoffs in three of the past four seasons.

COLLEGE ROUND-UP

ACU lost at Jacksonville State 40-25 in the first meeting between the two programs. The Wildcats fell behind 14-0 and turned it over three times in the loss. They got as close as 17-10 in the second quarter but saw the Gamecocks score the next ten points to build a comfortable lead in the third quarter. Peyton Mansell threw for 301 yards and a touchdowns and Sweetwater native Kobe Clark caught six passes for 143 yards and a score. The Wildcats fall to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play. They will return to Abilene for the final two games of the season, hosting Tarleton State Saturday and wrapping up the regular season Nov. 20 against defending national champion Sam Houston State.

Hardin-Simmons had little trouble taking down Austin College 56-14 on the road Saturday to keep its NCAA Division III playoff hopes alive. HSU led 14-0 after one and 35-0 at the half, outgaining the Kangaroos 610 to 236 on their way to the win. Kyle Jones completed 20 of 22 passes for 309 yards and three touchdowns and Brock Bujnoch picked off his fourth pass over the last two weeks and also led the team with eight tackles. The Cowboys host Texas Lutheran in the regular season finale Saturday.

Howard Payne scored the first 14 points on the road at #2 Mary Hardin-Baylor, but the Crusaders scored the next 59 on their way to a 59-14 victory. The Yellow Jackets stung first on a 70-yard flea flicker touchdown toss from Landon McKinney to Jake Parker, then saw the same combo hook up from 35-yards out to push the lead to 14-0 early in the first quarter. However, the Cru woke up from there, claiming a 21-14 lead by the end of the quarter and a 35-14 lead by halftime. UMHB outgained HPU 616 to 333. Howard Payne has now lost three in a row after a 6-0 start to the season and will host Austin College to wrap up the year this week.

McMurry dropped a 35-20 decision at Belhaven Saturday to fall to 2-5 on the season. The War Hawks kept it close most of the way, getting within 28-20 in third quarter before the Blazers answered with a touchdown to give the game its final score. McMurry ran for 203 yards but only threw for 81 yards in the loss. Belhaven did what they do best, chew the clock and run the football. The Blazers ran for 240 yards on their way to their fifth win of the season. The War Hawks have a huge challenge ahead of them in the 2021 finale as they welcome Mary Hardin-Baylor to Wilford Moore Stadium.

Cisco missed out on a chance to reach the SWJCFC playoffs with a 35-30 loss at Navarro. The Wranglers end their season 4-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Cisco led 21-7 at the half and 24-14 after three but saw Navarro outscore them 21-6 in the final quarter to pull off the win.
