We could go a number of directions here, from Tascosa taking down District 1 champ Del Valle on the the road to Lubbock Cooper blasting Parkland, but why not the Eagles?

Abilene High had 70 on the board by halftime in their eventual 70-point win over El Paso Hanks.

Thanks to Brandon McAuliffe for these stats: Abilene High only the had the ball for 7:08 of the first half and the average length of possession was 47.6 seconds. All phases of the game were incredible, and the Eagles should be riding high heading into their area playoff game against Denton Ryan.

Cisco. The Loboes, playing without starting quarterback Kannon Orsagh, still had enough in the tank to get past Ozona. Cisco scored on a Julius Proffitt to Cole Thompson 39-yard touchdown pass with 13 seconds left to win.

Honorable Mention - De Leon. The Bearcats advance past Nocona and are one of just two four seeds (Valley Mills) in 2A D1 to win in the first round.

The Cowboys earned their first outright American Southwest Conference title since 2004 with a 42-27 road win at East Texas Baptist.

Hardin-Simmons will be in the D3 playoffs Saturday at Trinity. The Tigers knocked HSU out of the playoffs in the first-round last year 14-7.

Mary Hardin-Baylor 35, Howard Payne 10

The Yellow Jackets wrapped up the 2023 season with their third loss in four games, falling to Mary Hardin-Baylor at home.

Howard Payne ends the year with a 6-4 record.

McMurry 37, Sul Ross State 23

The War Hawks made it four wins in a row in their season finale, beating Sul Ross at home 37-23 to finish the year at 6-4.

McMurry finishes above .500 for the first time since 2012.
