BEST WIN

Caprock gets the honor by default as the only team in the district to win this week. The Longhorns won at 4A D1 Pampa to get victory number one of the season.

TOUGHEST LOSS

The rest of the district could qualify for this one, as Abilene High, Tascosa and Coronado suffered losses by 30+ points, while Amarillo, Frenship and Lubbock Cooper came up short in close battles.

I’ll go with Tascosa here, as the Rebels couldn’t get anything going in a 43-6 loss to Permian.

Knox City. The Greyhounds flexed their muscle and made the state take notice once again this season with a dominating 45 of May on the road.

Valley fell to a top-ten ranked 1A D1 team, which is understandable, so the toughest loss this week belongs to Spur. The Bulldogs finally got their scoring going this week but couldn’t stop Motley County in a 25-point defeat.

Panther Creek. The Panthers ended up on top of a back-and-forth battle and squeaked past Priddy by a single point. The Pirates scored as the clock ran out and went for the extra point to win, but could not convert and the Panthers escaped with a shootout win.

Ranger improved to 2-1 with a 42-41 win over Perrin-Whitt.

The Bulldogs avenged a 42-6 loss to the Pirates from the previous year.

Our group of 19 unbeaten teams got cut to 11 after week three action.

Abilene High, Abilene Christian, Baird, Ira, May, Merkel, Snyder and Trent suffered defeats in action Thursday and Friday.

All 11 have a chance to stay perfect this week as we have no matchups between the squads on the week four schedule.

ACU 45, Prairie View A&M 16

The Wildcats move to 2-0 with a dominating victory at Prairie View.

ACU led 31-7 by the half and never looked back, cruising to their second straight easy victory to start the season.

Maverick McIvor threw for 314 yards and four scores to pace the offense, while Elijah Moffett led the defense with 12 tackles, 2.5 of those for loss.

McMurry 53, Millsaps 2

The War Hawks earned their most dominating victory in quite some time, beating Millsaps on the road 53-2. It is the most points McMurry has scored in a game since 2016.

McMurry led 11-2 after one quarter and 25-2 at the half on their way to the win.

They outgained Millsaps 374-206 and the defense picked off four passes.

Hardin-Simmons 28, Wisconsin-La Crosse 21

The Cowboys earned a huge non-conference road win, taking down 11th-ranked La Crosse 28-21 in Wisconsin Saturday afternoon.

HSU trailed 21-14 at the break but was the only team to score in the second half to pick up the victory.

Former Cooper Cougar Noah Garcia ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns on the day, and Cade Michna continued his big season with 13 more tackles, a sack, and an interception on defense.

Howard Payne 42, Southwestern Assemblies of God 10

HPU rolled past SAGU 42-10 to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Yellow Jacket defense has only allowed 13 points so far this season.

Howard Payne led 28-3 by the half and held on from there.

Tucker Bridwell replaced injured starting quarterback Landon McKinney and threw for 161 yards and four touchdown passes to lead the offense.

Cisco 20, Blinn 19

The Wranglers improved to 2-0 on the season and, more importantly, 1-0 in conference play with a one-point win over Blinn.

Cisco trailed 19-14 after three quarters but scored the only points of the fourth to get past the Bucs in head coach Stephen Lee’s first SWJCFC game.
