Brownwood falls off the list, but we still have five teams in the Big Country Blitz coverage area that have not lost this season.

Benjamin, Knox City, and Stamford all won in blowout fashion to stay perfect Friday night, while Albany and Clyde did not play and will have big tests this week against Miles and Vernon.

Graham, Vernon, Jacksboro, Gordon, Jayton, Cherokee, and Richland Springs are teams in Big Country districts that are still unbeaten as well.

North Texas 45, ACU 31

The Wildcats put up a good fight on the road at UNT but couldn’t pull off the upset.

The Mean Green fell behind 7-0 but scored the next 31 points and led 31-17 by the break.

ACU pulled within two scores twice in the second half, but that was as close as they could get.

North Texas outgained ACU 530-387. Maverick McIvor threw for 217 yards and four touchdowns, three to Blayne Taylor who caught six passes for 85 yards.

Jay’Veon Sunday ran for 140 yards to pace the ACU ground game and Darius Moore led the defense with 12 tackles and a forced fumble.

Hardin-Simmons 40, Howard Payne 33

The 18th-ranked Cowboys beat Howard Payne for the 16th consecutive time, getting past their rivals by seven.

Both teams had big plays in the game, but the one that sealed the HSU win was drawing HPU offsides on a 4th and 1 late in the fourth quarter. The Cowboys were able to run out the clock and close out the win.

HPU outgained HSU 470-371, with Landon McKinney passing for 360 yards and three scores. The Cowboys got great efforts on the ground from Noah Garcia, 121 yards and a score, and Colton Marshall, 81 yards and three touchdowns.

McMurry 52, Lyon College 10

The War Hawks finally got to play at home and took care of Lyon College in blowout fashion to even their record at 2-2.

McMurry outgained the Scots 642-157, passing for 503 yards in the win.

Jess Hoel racked up 293 yards and three scores passing and also ran for 43 yards and a touchdown. Kristopher Martin caught five passes for 160 yards and three scores and Phazzon Washington ran for a game-high 68 yards and a touchdown.

Kilgore 40, Cisco 27

The Wranglers trailed 28-14 by the half and could not catch up in their second straight conference loss.

Christian Kaopua had his best game at QB at Cisco, throwing for 290 yards and a touchdown. JaDarrius Thomas ran for 50 yards and two scores and Corey Sandolph caught five passes for 105 yards. Jalen Sessions was the leading tackler with nine.
