Sweetwater. The Mustangs got some key folks back from injury, including quarterback Caiden Ortiz, who helped lead them past Greenwood in a shootout. Sweetwater jumped out to a 24-0 lead, saw the Rangers rally to lead the game late in the fourth, but went back ahead with seconds to go when Ortiz found Korda Moore for a 22-yard touchdown pass that proved to be the game winner.

The Bulldogs make it three tough losses in a row with a 30-point defeat at now 4-3 Bluff Dale.

DISTRICT STANDINGS

STILL PERFECT

The same five Big Country teams remain unbeaten after week eight of action. Albany, Clyde and Stamford picked up huge victories to stay perfect, while Benjamin and Knox City had the week off.

Next week Albany hosts Roscoe, Clyde heads to Bowie, Stamford hosts Anson, Knox City travels to Northside and Benjamin hosts Harrold.

Richland Springs got past Rochelle to knock the Hornets off of Big Country and Beyond unbeaten status this week.

Brownwood, Roscoe, Hermleigh, Westbrook and Abilene Christian are all great Big Country teams with just one loss after eight weeks, while 11 more teams in Big Country districts have suffered just one defeat.

COLLEGE ROUNDUP

ACU 30, North Alabama 13

The Wildcats were tied at 13 with the Lions early in the third quarter but outscored them 17-0 the rest of the way to earn their first conference victory of the season.

ACU got 206 yards and a pair of touchdown passes from Maverick McIvor to help them end a three-game losing streak.

Hardin-Simmons 27, Texas Lutheran 22

#20 Hardin-Simmons forced an incomplete pass on the final play of the game to get past Texas Lutheran 27-22 Saturday afternoon.

The Cowboys made it a happy homecoming at HSU and improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

The Bulldogs drove the field in the final minutes and got all the way to the HSU 12-yard line, but Caden Bosanko’s pass attempt as the clock ran out fell incomplete and the Cowboys earned the win.

The Cowboys got starting quarterback Gaylon Glynn back from injury. He had not played since a loss to Endicott on Sept. 22 and returned with a 22-29 passing effort for 224 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Noah Garcia paced the Cowboy attack with 116 yards and a touchdown rushing and also caught three passes for 58 yards and a score.

Javion Mays and Cason Hanna led HSU with nine tackles each. Mays added a sack and a forced fumble.

The Cowboys head to Alpine next weekend to take on Sul Ross State.

Texas Lutheran (1-5, 0-2) will host East Texas Baptist on Saturday.

Howard Payne 35, Austin College 11

The Yellow Jackets led 35-8 by halftime and cruised past Austin College to earn their second straight ASC victory.

HPU only ran for nine yards but racked up 385 through the air to get past the Kangaroos.

Landon McKinney competed 34 of 53 passes for 385 yards and three scores to lead the attack.

Gus Charles caught ten balls for 119 yds and a score and Jordan Carroll hauled in nine for 138 yards and two touchdowns.

East Texas Baptist 14, McMurry 13

McMurry dropped another close conference contest, this time by a single point at East Texas Baptist.

The War Hawks scored the only points of the second half, but a missed extra point haunted them as it kept them from tying up the game with the Tigers.

Jess Hoel threw for 226 yards with two touchdowns and three picks and also led the way on the ground with 52 yards rushing.

Kristopher Martin continued a strong season with 11 catches for 141 yards and a touchdown.

Cisco 21, NMMI 10

Cisco College earned its biggest victory of the season, topping #14 NMMI on the road in Roswell 21-10.

The Wranglers remain in the mix for one of the four playoff spots in the conference playoffs and have another huge showdown this weekend at home against Tyler College.
