Jim Ned earned one of the best wins of the week, taking down previously unbeaten and fourth-ranked in 3A D2 Jacksboro 42-40. The Indians are now 2-2 and looking like they’ll be a contender in District 3-3A Division I. Jim Ned outgained the vaunted Tiger offense 488-404, rushing for 343 yards to dominate time of possession and earn the victory.

Fellow district foe Sweetwater played up a class and won on the road at 4A D2 Estacado 39-25 to even its record at 2-2 as well. The Mustangs were able to shut down the Ross brothers just enough, and got 160 yards and three scores from Korda Moore to help them get an impressive win away from the Bowl.

Cooper got win number one of the season in impressive fashion, whipping up on Lubbock Coronado 53-7 on the road Friday evening. The Cougars needed and got a big confidence boost, putting it all together before beginning district play next week.

Abilene High and Wylie had tough games at home Friday night. The Eagles gave up over 500 yards of total offense for a second straight week in falling 62-42 to Midland Legacy. Legacy sophomore quarterback JP Reyes, making his first start, completed his first 15 passes and ended up throwing for a school-record 422 yards and six touchdown passes for the Rebels. The Warbird defense has certainly been tested by a trio of 6A teams in non-district, and now will have to really come to play when district play begins next week. The Eagle offense continued to impress, racking up 454 yards. Wylie ran into a buzzsaw, as the top-ranked Stephenville offense put 49 points on the board to ruin the Bulldogs homecoming game. District play starts for Wylie next week against Wichita Falls Legacy.

Hamlin knocked Munday from the ranks of the unbeaten, dominating the Moguls on the road 39-0. Hamlin held Munday to negative yardage (-44) in the game. Both teams are now 3-1, and the Pied Pipers have to be feeling good about their playoff chances when district play begins in a couple of weeks. Hamlin grad Brandon Langston falls to 0-2 in games coached against his alma mater.

The Brownwood Lions fall below .500 with a somewhat shocking 43-0 home loss to Waco La Vega. The Pirates are no slouch, but many expected the Lions to make it a much closer ball game. It’s the first shutout loss by the Lions in 13 years.

Ballinger saw its perfect season come to an end at the hands of rival Brady. The Bulldogs limited the Bearcats to just around 100 yards of total offense, pitching their second shutout of the season.

Clyde played up a class and knocked out 4A D2 Snyder at home 46-13. The Bulldogs are now 2-2 and looking like they’ll be in the playoff mix as well in a very deep district. Snyder hopes to bounce back against 1-3 Big Spring next week at home.

The fearsome foursome in District 4-2A Division II all won again. Anson, Cisco, Hawley, and Stamford continue to look very good. They’re now a combined 15-1 and won their games Friday by a combined 196-56.

Colorado City got into the win column with a Homecoming win over Grape Creek. The Wolves have been pretty good offensively this season and put together their best defensive effort thus far to get the win.

Ranger also earned victory number one of the season, dominating Cranfills Gap 50-0 to improve to 1-3. It is the first UIL 1A victory for the Bulldogs in program history.

Jayton played its longest game of the season so far, but still had enough in the tank to 45 previously unbeaten Knox City 80-30 Friday night. The top-ranked Jaybirds continue to be the team to beat in Division II in the Lone Star State.

May also won a state-ranked showdown with Newcastle, rolling past the Bobcats 72-22 on the road. The Tigers are looking like a juggernaut so far in their first season under head coach James Ball.

Roby took down Petersburg at home 65-48 to get to 3-1. The Lions won only two combined games over thye past two years.

District 13-1A Division II still looks like it is stacked. All five teams (Blanket, Gustine, Rising Star, Sidney, and Zephyr) won this week and all five won by at least 20 points. Blanket and Zephyr both beat 1A D1 teams, and the district is, impressively, a combined 15-3-1 through four weeks.

Abilene Christian continues to put fans through the ringer, winning another very close contest, this time 22-21 over Lubbock Kingdom Prep to improve to 2-2.

Breckenridge, Merkel, TLCA Abilene, Roscoe, Blackwell, Lueders-Avoca, Throckmorton, and Panther Creek will all have to wait another week to try to find the win column. This group remains winless so far after four weeks of play.
