ACU Shuts Out Northern Arizona in FCS Playoff Debut

ABILENE, Texas — Abilene Christian allowed just 194 yards of total offense and no points in a 24-0 shut out of Northern Arizona in the Wildcats’ first FCS playoff game.

The Wildcats will now advance to face #2 North Dakota State next Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Fargo Dome. NDSU has won nine FCS national titles, with the last coming in 2021.

ACU played without injured starting quarterback Maverick McIvor, and Carson Haggard filled in just fine. Haggard completed 23 of 29 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns, along with three interceptions.

Sam Hicks was the key to the ACU offense, rushing for 171 yards and a score, including a 53-yarder in the fourth quarter to all but put the game away.

Will Shaffer and Jerry Lawson led the Wildcats with seven tackles each, and Kaghen Roach added six tackles and 1.5 sacks as part of a dominating day for the ACU defense.
