Jim Ned Wins State!
If you watched the instant classic between Jim Ned and Hallettsville for the 3A Division I state championship Thursday night, you know there’s not much for me to add. What a game!
The Indians rallied from 21-0 down in the first half to knock off the Brahmas for a second time this season — this time 29-28 in overtime. Jim Ned went for two in the first OT and got it for the win to give the Indians their first football state championship.
Big time congrats to my old Hardin-Simmons teammate Matt Fanning and all of the coaches and players in the program. Jim Ned put together a special season that won’t soon be forgotten.
The Indians went from unranked in the preseason to state champs this year, but they likely won’t be able to play the underdog role next year with Xavier Wishert, Tate Yardley and Braden Lewis among the stars returning for their senior campaigns.
State championship t-shirts are available at the Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame in the Mall of Abilene this morning if you need some fresh Jim Ned title gear.
