GAMES OF THE WEEK

Aspermont leads series 14-2
Last meeting: Aspermont 68, Paint Creek 0 in 2017

Aspermont has shut out the Pirates in nine straight meetings dating back to 2002.

Last Paint Creek win in series: 1990

The Hornets are in with a win, while the Pirates need a win and a Rule loss or a win by 20 or more. I expect Paint Creek to keep it close, but Aspermont is the pick to end a five-year playoff skid.

THE SPREAD PIGSKIN PREP: Aspermont by 6
THE SPREAD 6MFB: Aspermont by 45
THE PICK: Aspermont

Forth Worth Covenant Classical leads series 4-0
Last meeting: FWCC 52, Abilene Christian 6 in 2023

The Panthers are already a playoff team but can improve their seeding with a win and get over the hump against a Cavaliers team they haven’t beaten. However, FWCC is ranked number one in the state in TAPPS Division II and the pick to win it.

THE SPREAD PIGSKIN PREP: FWCC by 6
THE SPREAD 6MFB: FWCC by 13
THE PICK: FWCC

Strawn leads series 25-15
Last meeting: Strawn 64, Woodson 0 in 2017

Last Woodson win: 1996

The Cowboys have already clinched their first winning season since 2019, but will have their hands full against the 8th-ranked Greyhounds. Strawn is the choice to earn the district crown.

THE SPREAD PIGSKIN PREP: Strawn by 31
THE SPREAD 6MFB: Strawn by 45
THE PICK: Strawn

Westbrook leads series 12-8
Last meeting: Westbrook 76, Hermleigh 30 in 2023

The Cardinals have to win to have a realistic shot at the playoffs, which will be hard to do against a Wildcat squad that is doing what they always do: getting better as the season goes on. Hermleigh can hang, but Westbrook is the pick to win.

THE SPREAD PIGSKIN PREP: Westbrook by 16
THE SPREAD 6MFB: Westbrook by 26
THE PICK: Westbrook

Jonesboro leads series 10-8
Last meeting: Jonesboro 86, May 39 in 2023

The Eagles beat the Tigers twice last season, but May seems to be on a different level this year. The Tigers have won 8 of 9 games this year by mercy rule. I don’t expect a blowout in this one, but May is the pick to get past Jonesboro Friday night.

THE SPREAD PIGSKIN PREP: May by 16
THE SPREAD 6MFB: May by 12
THE PICK: May

Cooper leads series 5-0
Last meeting: Cooper 28, Palo Duro 21 in 2023

The winner gets into the playoffs; the loser is out. Both teams enter on two-game winning streaks; the pick is for the Cougars to make it three in a row and 18 years in a row in the playoffs.

THE SPREAD PIGSKIN PREP: Cooper by 4
THE PICK: Cooper

Roscoe leads series 13-5
Last meeting: Roscoe 34, Miles 33 in 2023

The Plowboys fell to Albany last week and hope to bounce back on the road. The Bulldogs have shut out Cross Plains, Hamlin, and Winters over the past three weeks, but Roscoe is the pick to pull off a slight upset on the road.

THE SPREAD PIGSKIN PREP: Miles by 10
THE PICK: Roscoe

Hamilton leads series 34-33
Last meeting: Hamilton 27, De Leon 20 in 2023

The Bearcats have been just about unstoppable, averaging 55 points per game in district. Hamilton is no slouch either, but De Leon is the pick in what should be a great one.

THE SPREAD PIGSKIN PREP: De Leon by 6
THE PICK: De Leon

Jim Ned leads series 1-0
Last meeting: Jim Ned 56, Sweetwater 14 in 2021

The Mustangs can clinch the district title with the win, but the Indians have been playing great of late and won their last three games by a combined 165-6. I expect this one to be decided late and close throughout. Sweetwater is the choice to win.

THE SPREAD PIGSKIN PREP: Sweetwater by 3
THE PICK: Sweetwater

Stamford leads series 22-12
Last meeting: Hawley 34, Stamford 30 in 2023

Hawley has won six in a row in the series dating back to 2018.

The number one Bulldogs hope to avenge their 2023 loss to the fifth ranked Bearcats. These two have the top scoring defenses in the Big Country and two of the top five offenses in the area as well. The pick is Stamford to defend the home field and win a classic.
