Playoff Picture and Predictions
We have hit the final week of the regular season, which means the playoffs are just around the corner for some teams, and basketball season is imminent for others.
Below you’ll find what I know about who is in, who is out, and who has work to do, plus how I think things will look when the regular season comes to an end.
DISTRICT 2-5A DIVISION I
Abilene High has concluded the regular season is playoff bound, but will need Caprock to upset Monterey in the final week of the season to get the number one seed.
If Amarillo High beats Tascosa next week and Monterey beats Caprock to cause a three-way tie at 5-1 atop the district standings, the Eagles should be the two-seed in the playoffs because of points and get a home game in the bi-district round (and avoid a trip to El Paso.)
If Monterey wins and Tascosa wins, the Eagles would be the #2 seed.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
#1 vs. El Paso Bel Air (0-9, 0-5)
#2 vs. El Paso Parkland (3-6, 3-2)/El Paso Americas (2-6, 2-3)
#3 vs. Parkland/Americas
#4 vs. El Paso El Dorado (9-0, 5-0)
Predicted Playoff Teams
1. Lubbock Monterey
2. Abilene High
3. Amarillo High
4. Tascosa

Brock is the #2 seed.
Mineral Wells will be locked in at #3 with a win over Burkburnett.
If Mineral Wells loses, Graham beats Eagle Mountain, and Brock beats Bridgeport, then Burkburnett would be the #3 seed and Mineral Wells the #4 seed.
Most likely, Mineral Wells wins to claim the #3, and Eagle Mountain, Bridgeport, and Burkburnett will all end up 1-4 and tied for fourth. If the district has a 15 point tiebreaker, Eagle Mountain would get the fourth place slot.

Wall will be the #1 seed with a win over Stanton.
Stanton will be the #1 seed with a win over Wall.
If Coahoma beats Merkel and Wall beats Stanton, then Coahoma, Stanton, and Grape Creek will all be tied for second at 2-2 in district play. In that scenario (if the district has the 15 point max for a tiebreaker) then Coahoma would be +1, Stanton would be at 0, and Grape Creek would be at -1 and the Eagles would be #4.
Merkel can earn the #4 seed with a win over Coahoma.

DISTRICT 4-3A DIVISION II
Tolar is the #1 seed.
The Brady/Clifton winner this week will be the #2 seed and the loser will be the #3 seed.
Eastland, Dublin, and Early are all still in the mix for the #4 seed.
If Eastland upsets Tolar the Mavericks and Dublin loses to Early, the Mavericks will be the #4 seed.
If Eastland beats Tolar and Dublin beats Early then the Lions will make the postseason courtesy of their 35-28 win over Eastland.
If Dublin beats Early and Eastland loses to Tolar, the Lions will make the playoffs.
If Early beats Dublin and Eastland loses to Tolar, then the Longhorns, Lions, and Mavericks will all be tied for the fourth spot with 1-4 district records and go to the district tiebreaker. Assuming a 15-point system, an Early win by 5 or more would put the Longhorns in the playoffs.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
Tolar vs. Henrietta (3-6, 1-3)/Millsap (3-6, 1-3) winner
#2 seed vs. City View (7-2, 3-1)/Jacksboro (7-2, 3-1)/Holliday (7-2, 4-0)

DISTRICT 3-2A DIVISION I
Reagan County is the #1 seed even with a loss to Forsan in Week 11.
Ozona will be the #2 seed with a win over Christoval.
A Christoval win over Ozona plus a Forsan upset of Reagan County would put Christoval, Ozona, and Forsan all at 3-2 and tied for second.
A Christoval win over Ozona plus a Reagan County win would give the Cougars the #2 seed and Ozona the #3 seed.
A Sonora win over Colorado City plus a Forsan loss to Reagan County and a Christoval loss to Ozona would put the Broncos, Cougars, and Buffaloes all at 2-3 and tied for third place. In that scenario, Sonora would get the #3 seed at +8, Forsan would get the #4 at 0 and Christoval would miss the playoffs.
A Sonora win over Colorado City plus a Forsan win and a Christoval loss would give Forsan the #3 seed and Christoval would take the #4 seed thanks to their head-to-head win over Sonora.
Colorado City has been eliminated from playoff contention.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
Reagan County vs. Cisco (5-4, 1-3)/Olney (2-7, 1-3) winner
#2 seed vs. Anson (6-3, 2-2)

Predicted Playoff Order
1. De Leon
2. Hamilton
3. Coleman
4. Ballinger
DISTRICT 14-2A DIVISION I
Mason, Holland, San Saba, and Thorndale are all playoff bound.
Mason will be the #1 seed with a win over San Saba.
San Saba can force a three-way tie for first place with a win over Mason and a Holland win at Thorndale.
San Saba will be #1 with a win and a Holland loss to Thorndale.
Thorndale will be #3 with a win over Holland.
A Mason win and a Thorndale win would put San Saba, Holland, and Thorndale in a three-way tie for second place.

#3 vs. Riesel/Rosebud-Lott/Bruceville-Eddy
#4 vs. Marlin (6-3, 4-0)
Predicted Playoff Order
1. Mason
2. Holland
3. San Saba
4. Thorndale
DISTRICT 6-2A DIVISION II
This district is probably the toughest one to make sense of at this point. There are so many scenarios, and only Munday has been eliminated from playoff contention at this point.
Windthorst is the #1 seed, whether they beat Petrolia in Week 11 or not.
If Electra beats Haskell, Windthorst beats Petrolia, and Archer City beats Seymour, Archer City will be the #2 seed and Electra the #3 seed. That would put Haskell, Seymour, and Petrolia all at 2-4 and tied for #4. Petrolia (+12) would get the #4 seed ahead of Seymour (-4) and Haskell (-8)
If Haskell beats Electra, Archer City beats Seymour, and Windthorst beats Petrolia, then Archer City would be #2 and Haskell and Electra would be tied for third at 3-3. Haskell would take the #3 seed thanks to their potential win and Electra would be #4.
If Seymour beats Archer City, Haskell beats Electra, and Windthorst beats Petrolia, then we would have a four-way tie for second place at 3-3 with Archer City, Haskell, Electra and Seymour.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
Windthorst vs. Memphis (2-6, 1-3)/Quanah (1-8, 1-3)

Mart, Bremond, Wortham, and Goldthwaite are all playoff bound.
Mart is the #1 seed.
Bremond is the #2 seed with a win over Frost or a loss and either a Wortham or Goldthwaite loss.
If Bremond is upset by Frost, Wortham beats Hubbard, and Goldthwaite upsets Mart then Bremond, Wortham, and Goldthwaite would all be tied for second at 5-2.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
Mart vs. Cumby (4-5, 2-3)/Detroit (2-6, 2-3)/Simms Bowie (2-7, 2-3)/Celeste (2-7, 2-3)

Predicted Playoff Order
1. Mart

DISTRICT 6-1A DIVISION I
If Newcastle beats Bryson in Week 11, there will be a three-way tie for first place between Newcastle, Knox City, and Perrin-Whitt.
The tie will be broken by points, and Newcastle (+22) and Knox City (-4) would be the playoff teams and the Pirates (-18) would miss out on the postseason.
If Bryson wins, Knox City would be the top seed, and Perrin-Whitt, with a win in Week 11 over Northside, would be two. Newcastle would miss the playoffs.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
#1 vs. Petersburg (4-5, 2-1)/Valley (3-6, 2-1) winner
#2 vs. Spur (9-0, 3-0)
Predicted Playoff Teams
1. Newcastle
2. Knox City
DISTRICT 7-1A DIVISION I
Westbrook will wrap up the district title and #1 seed if it can get past Hermleigh Friday night.
A Hermleigh win and an Ira win over Highland would force a three-way tie for first with the Cardinals, Ira, and Westbrook. The district points cap is 45, so if Hermleigh can pull off the upset, they would be a playoff team and Ira would be out.
Hermleigh: -8 vs Ira, +any positive total = at least -7
Westbrook: 45 vs Ira, -up to 45 = 0
Ira: -45 vs Westbrook, +8 vs Hermleigh = -37
In that scenario, Westbrook is the top seed and Hermleigh the #2 seed.
An Ira win plus a Hermleigh loss locks the Bulldogs in at #2.
A Highland win over Ira plus a Hermleigh loss would make it a three-way tie for second with the Hornets, Ira, and Hermleigh. Hermleigh would have the points advantage and take the tiebreaker for the second playoff spot in that scenario.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
#1 vs. Robert Lee (7-3, 3-1)
#2 vs. Water Valley (7-2, 3-0)
Predicted Playoff Teams
1. Westbrook
2. Ira
DISTRICT 8-1A DIVISION I
Water Valley has clinched the #1 seed, Robert Lee has clinched the #2 seed.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
Water Valley vs. Westbrook (7-2, 4-0)/Ira (6-3, 3-1)/Hermleigh (7-2, 3-1)
Robert Lee vs. Westbrook/Ira/Hermleigh
DISTRICT 13-1A DIVISION I
Gordon is the #1 seed and district champ with a win over Gorman. Baird is the #2 seed if that happens.
If the Panthers can pull off the upset, it would force a three-way tie at 3-1 between the Longhorns, Bears, and Gorman. Gorman would have to win by at least 24 points to make all three teams at 0 in the points tiebreaker. Anything less would give Gordon the #1 seed and Baird the #2 seed.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
#1 vs. May (9-0, 2-0)/Jonesboro (7-1, 2-0) loser
#2 vs. May/Jonesboro winner
Predicted Playoff Teams
1. Gordon
2. Baird
DISTRICT 14-1A DIVISION I
The winner of the May/Jonesboro showdown will be the district champ and #1 seed in the playoffs, and the loser will be the #2 seed.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
#1 vs. Gordon (9-0, 3-0)/Baird (7-3, 3-1)/Gorman (4-5, 2-1)
#2 vs. Gordon/Baird/Gorman
Predicted Playoff Teams
1. May
2. Jonesboro
DISTRICT 6-1A DIVISION II
If Bronte beats Olfen and Blackwell beats Trent this week there will be a three-way tie for the district title between the Longhorns, Hornets, and Loraine (who is off this week).
In that scenario, Blackwell would be the #1 seed (+22), Loraine would be second (+1), and Bronte (-23) would miss the playoffs.
If Trent upsets Blackwell and Bronte wins, then Bronte would be #1 and Loraine #2.
If Olfen upsets Bronte and Blackwell wins, then Loraine would be #1 and Blackwell #2.
If Bronte and Blackwell both lose in upset fashion, then there would be a three-way tie for second between Blackwell, Bronte, and Trent. Trent would have to beat Blackwell by 24 or more (the district cap is 24) to get all three teams at 0. Then there would be a coin flip for the second playoff spot. If Trent were to win by 23 or less, Blackwell would get the second playoff spot at +1, Bronte would be at 0, and Trent would be at -1.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
#1 vs. Grandfalls-Royalty (6-3, 3-0)/Balmorhea (6-3, 2-1)/Sierra Blanca (5-4, 2-1)/Sanderson (6-2, 1-2)
#2 vs. Grandfalls-Royalty/Balmorhea/Sierra Blanca/Sanderson
Predicted Playoff Teams
1. Blackwell
2. Loraine
DISTRICT 7-1A DIVISION II
Jayton has wrapped up the district title and is the #1 seed in the playoffs.
If Aspermont beats Paint Creek next week, the Hornets will secure the #2 seed.
If Paint Creek beats Aspermont and Rule beats Lueders-Avoca, there will be a points tiebreaker between the Bobcats, Hornets, and Pirates for the second playoff spot. Paint will have to beat Aspermont by 20 or more to earn the #2 spot. If Aspermont loses by 19 or less, they would get the #2 spot and Paint Creek would miss out. Rule is at -10 head-to-head with Aspermont and Paint Creek (district max is 24), so I do not see a scenario where the Bobcats can get into the postseason.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
Jayton vs. Harrold (4-4, 2-1)/Crowell (3-6, 2-1)/Benjamin (6-1, 3-0)
#2 vs. Harrold/Crowell/Benjamin
Predicted Playoff Teams
1. Jayton
2. Aspermont
DISTRICT 8-1A DIVISION II
Benjamin will wrap up the #1 seed with a win over Harrold.
If Harrold upsets the Mustangs and Crowell beats Chillicothe, there would be a three-way tie for first place at 3-1 between Benjamin, Crowell, and Harrold.
If Harrold upsets Benjamin and Chillicothe beats Crowell, Harrold would take the #1 seed and Benjamin would be the #2 seed.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
#1 vs. Aspermont (5-4, 2-1)/Paint Creek (6-3, 1-2)/Rule (4-5, 1-2)
#2 vs. Jayton (10-0, 4-0)
Predicted Playoff Teams
1. Benjamin
2. Crowell
DISTRICT 9-1A DIVISION II
The winner of the Strawn/Woodson game will be the #1 seed in the playoffs, the loser will be the #2 seed.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
#1 vs. Fannindel (3-6, 0-1)/Forestburg (2-7, 0-1) winner
#2 vs. Gold-Burg (6-4, 2-0)
Predicted Playoff Teams
1. Strawn
2. Woodson
DISTRICT 11-1A DIVISION II
Iredell has clinched the #1 seed, and I believe Three Way has clinched the #2 seed whether or not they lose to Morgan (2-7, 0-3) this week.
Even if Morgan pulls off the upset, a 2-2 Three Way team would hold a head-to-head tiebreaker over the winner of this weeks Kopperl/Bluff Dale game. Both teams are 1-2. The winner will improve to 2-2, but both teams have already lost to Three Way this season.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
Iredell vs. Mount Calm (5-4, 1-1)/Bynum (1-8, 1-1)/Oakwood (4-5, 2-0)
Three Way vs. Mount Calm/Bynum/Oakwood
Predicted Playoff Teams
1. Iredell
2. Three Way
DISTRICT 13-1A DIVISION II
Zephyr will claim the top seed with a win over Gustine.
If Zephyr beats Gustine and Blanket beats Sidney, Zephyr is #1 and Blanket #2.
If Zephyr beats Gustine and Blanket loses to Sidney, Zephyr is #1 and Blanket would be #2 thanks to a head-to head win over Gustine earlier this season.
If Gustine beats Zephyr and Blanket beats Sidney, there will be a three-way tie between the Bulldogs, Blanket, and Gustine.
If Gustine beats Zephyr and Sidney beats Blanket, Gustine would be the #1 seed, Zephyr the #2 seed, and Blanket would miss the playoffs.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
#1 vs. Evant (4-5, 3-0)/Oglesby (7-2, 3-0) loser
#2 vs. Evant/Oglesby winner
Predicted Playoff Teams
1. Zephyr
2. Blanket
DISTRICT 15-1A DIVISION II
Richland Springs is the #1 seed and district champ.
Rochelle is the #2 seed, as Panther Creek has been playing a JV schedule most of the season, and their varsity forfeit will give Rochelle a 3-1 district record.
Potential bi-district playoff matchups:
Richland Springs vs. Cherokee (8-1, 2-0)/Calvert (3-4, 2-0) loser
Rochelle vs. Cherokee/Calvert winner
Predicted Playoff Teams
1. Richland Springs
2. Rochelle

Predicted Playoff Teams
1. Cherokee

Fort Worth Covenant Classical will be the district champ and #1 seed in the playoffs with a win at Abilene Christian Friday.
If the Cavaliers win, Crowley Nazarene will be the #2 seed and ACS the #3 seed.
