Cowboys Eliminated By Trinity For Second Straight Season + Photos
SAN ANTONIO — Hardin-Simmons could not get their offense rolling and came up short against Trinity, 20-6, in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs for the second straight season.
The Tigers put two touchdowns on the board in the first half on pair of Tucker Horn to Ryan Merrifield touchdown passes, leading 14-0 at the break.
The Tigers added two fourth quarter field goals and HSU only scored in the final minute on a Gaylon Glynn to KJ Peoples three-yard touchdown pass. The Cowboys were stuffed on fourth and goal on their previous drive and were held to -3 yards rushing on 20 attempts in the game.
Glynn threw for 189-yards and a touchdown but was sacked four times. The Cowboys were missing three starters on the offensive line, which only hurt their chances to run against a very good Tiger defense.
Trinity will take on North Central (Illinois) in the second round of the playoffs next week.
