Eastland advances to Texas State 7 on 7 Tournament
ABILENE, Texas — Eastland went a perfect 4-0 at the Hawley State 7 on 7 Tournament qualifier held at Abilene Christian School Saturday.
The Mavericks beat Eldorado 27-12, Lubbock Roosevelt 35-21 and Goldthwaite 20-6 to win their pool, then shut out Crane 20-0 to wrap up a berth to the Division III State Tournament in College Station in late June.
Sunray was the other qualifier from the tournament. The Bobcats were a 2A Division II state semifinalist last season, falling to eventual state champ Albany.
Hawley, playing without some key players on their baseball team that is still in the state playoffs, went 0-3 in pool play.
Coleman went 1-2 and Goldthwaite went 0-3.
Eastland and Abilene Cooper are the only two Big Country teams that have qualified for state so far this year. Cooper beat Lubbock Coronado to win the Wichita Falls state qualifying tournament today.
