Hardin-Simmons holds off McMurry 17-12 + Photos
ABILENE, Texas — #5 Hardin-Simmons stopped McMurry on 4th and 4 in the final minute of the game to hold on for a tenth straight victory in the series.
The Cowboys had a chance to run out the clock, but the War Hawks recovered a Colton Marshall fumble to get another shot at the comeback win. However, HSU was able to turn them over on downs to earn the victory.
Hardin-Simmons scored first on a short Kyle Brown to Brock Gibson touchdown toss in the first quarter, but McMurry answered with a Jess Hoel quarterback keeper in the second. The extra point was blocked, and HSU led 7-6 at the half.
The Cowboys extended the lead to 10-6 and then 17-6 before McMurry rallied late.
HSU improves to 6-0 overall and is 2-0 on conference play. The Cowboys will host East Texas Baptist next Saturday.
The War Hawks are now 4-2 overall but still lead the SCAC with a 4-0 record. They will play at Texas Lutheran next week.
