OFF THE TOP
Wylie picked up a huge victory Friday night at Wichita Falls Memorial, getting a last-second field goal from Noah Rehburg to top the Mavericks 45-42 and stay perfect in District 2-5A Division II play. The Bulldogs got a massive performance from Julius Laine in a game that was tied at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, and 42 before the Bulldogs earned the victory at the very end. Wylie is off this week and will host Lubbock Cooper in a massive contest on November 1.
Cooper kept its playoff hopes alive with a 35-23 win over Plainview. The Cougars now need to win their final two against Wichita Falls Legacy and Palo Duro to clinch a playoff spot.
Abilene High dominated Lubbock High 69-14 on the road Thursday night to move to 4-0 in district play. The Eagles led 27-7 at the half and really dominated in the third quarter, outscoring the Westerners 35-0 and out-gaining them 315 to -6 in that period. The Warbirds host Tascosa Friday and visit Monterey in Week 10 in a game that looks like it will decide the district title.
Sweetwater picked up a key District 3-3A Division I victory at Comanche to stay in a first place tie for the district lead. The Mustangs and Clyde, who dominated TLCA San Angelo 67-0, are the last two unbeatens in the district and play in the Mustang Bowl this week. Jim Ned also bounced back from falling to Comanche with a 48-0 home win over winless Breckenridge.
Brady definitely made me take a second look at the score with its dominant 47-7 win at Eastland. The Bulldogs barely escaped at Dublin the week before but put it all together to move into a first place tie in the district with Tolar and Clifton. Tolar blew out Dublin, while Clifton got past Early 26-25.
Stamford and Hawley continue to be the class of District 4-2A Division I thanks to easy wins. The Bulldogs shut out Anson 43-0, while Hawley blew out Olney 52-6. Cisco stayed a game back in the district with an easy win over TLCA Abilene.
De Leon rolled to a 55-12 win at injury-depleted Coleman Friday to move to 2-0 in district. The Bearcats and Hamilton are the only two teams that are perfect after two weeks in District 5-2A Division I. Hamilton outlasted Ballinger on the road 35-13 to move to 7-0 on the season.

District 6-2A Division II continues to be one of the most unpredictable districts around. After falling to Munday the week before, Haskell bounced back with a huge 37-16 win over Archer City to stay in the playoff hunt. The road doesn’t get any easier for the Indians, however, as they will close the season against powerful Windthorst and unbeaten Electra. Those two are the only 3-0 teams in the district.
Roscoe got one of the better wins of the week with their 29-18 victory at Hamlin that snapped the Pied Pipers’ five-game winning streak. The Plowboys have won three in a row after an 0-3 start and look like the only team in 7-2A Division II that can hang with Albany. The Lions whipped Winters 68-0 and are now 2-0 in district action. Hamlin is still in pretty good shape for a playoff spot and has another big game this week at Miles, who shut out Cross Plains 48-0.
Newcastle missed what would have been a game-tying extra point with 33 seconds left and fell at home to Knox City in a 50-48 thriller. The Bobcats scored a couple of late touchdowns to get back in the game, but the Greyhounds emerge as the favorites to win a very competitive district.
Westbrook and Hermleigh rolled to pretty easy wins in 7-1A Division I play and are the only two teams that are 2-0 in the district.
Highland picked up a key win over Roby, 58-26, to stay in the playoff mix and bounce back from a district opening loss to Hermleigh. The Cardinals wrap up the season against Ira and Westbrook over the final two weeks, and those games will have a huge say in what two teams make the playoffs.
Top-ranked Gordon continues to roll. The Longhorns shut out Ranger 54-0 and tied for the district lead with Baird, who got past Lingleville 50-40 in a game closer than many expected.
Loraine kept its playoff hopes going with a thrilling 88-86 win at Blackwell. Bulldog QB Matthew Bolen ran and threw for a combined 13 touchdowns to help Loraine earn the win. Trent and Bronte are the current district leaders at 1-0, with Blackwell and Loraine still in the postseason picture at 1-1.
1A D2 #1 Jayton had no issues rolling past Rule 54-0 to move to 8-0 on the season. The Jaybirds and Aspermont are leading District 8 at 2-0 after the Hornets shut out Lueders-Avoca.
Blanket is still undefeated after shutting out Rising Star 54-0 Friday. The Tigers have shut out four of their eight opponents so far this season and will get set to face Zephyr, who was off Friday, this week in the game that looks like it will decide the district championship.
Abilene Christian suffered a tough loss to Crowley Nazarene 55-36 to fall to 1-1 in district play. Both teams are now a game behind 2-0 Fort Worth Covenant, who eased past Keller Harvest 46-0.
