McMurry Claims Share of SCAC Title + Photos

ABILENE, Texas — McMurry blasted Centenary 49-12 to finish the season with a 7-1 record in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play, tied for the title with Texas Lutheran.

It is the first conference crown for McMurry since they won the TIAA title in 1983.

The War Hawks led 7-0 after one, 23-6 at the half, and blew the Gents away in the third quarter, outscoring them 26-6 to leave no doubt.

Kristopher Martin caught 13 passes for 212 yards and four touchdowns, breaking the McMurry all-time career receptions record along the way. Greg Livingtson had the mark when he caught 202 passes from 2011 to 2013. Martin finishes with 204.

Jess Hoel threw for 287 yards and four touchdowns and also ran for 91 yards and two more scores.

The War Hawks improve to 7-3 overall this season, the most wins in a season since they went 8-3 in 2012.

The season comes courtesy of years of hard work from head coach Jordan Neal and his staff to turn things around. Neal went 5-29 his first four years at the helm and helped the War Hawks get to 6-4 last season and a win better in 2024.
