Stamford Puts It On Post, Heads to State Semifinals

SNYDER, Texas — The Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead and never looked back on their way to a 48-26 2A Region I championship victory over Post.

Stamford is in the state semifinals next week against either Hamilton or Axtell. Those two play Friday night in Belton to decide the Region II title.

The Bulldogs forced a punt on the Bold Gold’s first drive and drove for the first score of the game on a Christian Duran to Brayden Jimenez touchdown pass.

Stamford extended the lead to 14-0 later in the first when Duran found Cle Whitfield on a touchdown toss.

The final score of the half came on a Kaston Vega touchdown run. Vega, who usually wears number 10, wore number 4 tonight in honor of his injured senior teammate Drew Faulks, who was watching the game from a wheelchair on the sidelines after injuring his leg against Cisco last week.

The Bulldogs kept the pedal to the medal in the third quarter, extending to a 35-0 lead before Post got on the board a few times when the game was already decided.

Stamford is in the state semis for the first time since they won it all in 2013.
