OFF THE TOP

We start on Thursday night, where Stamford flexed some Bulldog muscle once again to knock previously unbeaten Post out of the playoffs, 48-26.

The score was not all that close, as Stamford led 21-0 at the half and 28-0 in the third before the Antelopes got on the scoreboard.

It was 42-6 heading into the fourth quarter when Post scored its final 20 points.

The Antelopes still got a great effort from star running back Ian Vergara, who ran for 223 yards and three touchdowns to go over 3,000 rushing yards this season.

Hamilton awaits the Bulldogs, in a battle of Bulldogs, in the 2A Division I state semifinals Thursday night in Mineral Wells after slipping past Axtell 15-14 in the Region II championship game Friday night.

The Bulldogs of Hamilton scored to pull within 14-13 with just over a minute to go and went for, and got, a two-point conversion to win it.

The deepest playoff run in program history continues for the Bulldogs.

Gordon will get a chance to defend its 1A Division I title after taking down previously unbeaten Abbott 77-36 on Saturday. It is the first non-mercy rule win for Gordon, but the Longhorns were in control from the start.

Gordon has now won 29 in a row and is already 27-point favorites, according to sixmanfootball.com, over Whiteface in the title game on December 18.

14-0 Whiteface is in the state championship game for the first time thanks to a 74-54 win over Water Valley in the other 1A D1 semifinal.

The Wildcats end the deepest playoff run in school history, and a great “welcome back to six-man” season, at 11-3.

Jayton took care of business over Klondike for the second time this season and will be making its AT&T Stadium debut in the 1A Division II finals against Oakwood.

The Jaybirds beat the Cougars 50-0 in week two and 90-48 on Friday, their first game to go the distance all season.

Oakwood upset Oglesby 54-51 and has won seven in a row after a 2-5 start to the season.

Stephenville saw its season come to an end with a 42-35 loss to Canyon West Plains in Midland Friday night.

The game had a controversial ending, as officials said quarterback Ryan Gafford was stopped short of the goalline on a 4th down run in the final minutes.

West Plains advances to take on Celina in the semifinals at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene Friday, while Stephenville wraps up the year at 12-2.

Graham blasted Brock in the first matchup between the two teams this season, but the Eagles got the last laugh in a 12-10 triple overtime thriller.

Brock will move on to face state power Carthage in the semifinals.

Graham ends a great year at 12-2.

Wall got past perennial Region I power Canadian in a 49-3 blowout and is on to the 3A D2 semifinals against another power, Gunter. Canadian had knocked the Hawks out of the playoffs the last two seasons.

Gunter has won the last two 3A D2 state championships and will meet Wall at ACU on Friday afternoon.

COLLEGE ROUNDUP

North Dakota State 51, ACU 31

The Wildcats gave it all they had in the Fargodome, but could not hold on and lost to national power North Dakota State on the road.

ACU led 17-3 early in the second quarter after a Vaes Ritse field goal, but the Bison returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to shift the momentum. North Dakota State was up for good at 20-17 by the half.

The Wildcats end a great season at 9-5.
