Stamford Tops Cisco Again, Moves On To Regional Finals + Photos
ABILENE, Texas — Stamford blocked a punt early in the first quarter and scored on the next play to set the tone in their rematch with Cisco in the 2A Division II Regional Semifinals at Shotwell Stadium Friday afternoon.
Kaston Vega did the honors on that first touchdown and added two more in the first half to help the Bulldogs build a 34-7 lead by the break.
Cisco scored on a Julius Proffitt quarterback sneak in the second quarter to pull within 20-7, but saw Stamford answer on a long wide receiver screen from Christian Duran to Drew Faulks on the next play from scrimmage to give the Bulldogs a 20-point lead again at 27-7.
Vega added a long touchdown run after Stamford stopped Cisco on downs late in the second quarter.
Christian Duran ran for a touchdown in the third and Cle Whitfield added two more in that quarter to help Stamford put the game further out of reach.
Whitfield ran for 122 yards and three touchdowns and Vega added 119 and two scores and also caught an 11-yard touchdown pass.
Duran completed 6-7 passes for 116 yards and two scores and ran for 47 yards and another touchdown.
The Bulldogs improve to 13-0 and will face Post in the regional finals, or state quarterfinals, next week. The Bold Gold upset Sunray 34-31 to advance.
Cisco ends its season at 8-5. The Loboes, the four-seed from District 4-2A DI, made a three-round playoff run that not many predicted.
