ABILENE, Texas — The TLCA Abilene Eagles snapped an 11-game losing streak and earned the first 11-man victory in program history with a 14-9 win over Munday at McMurry Saturday night.

The victory is a big milestone in a program that Jeremy Kirk took over in 2021. "This is huge. I just hope that they realize what our potential is."

The Eagles trailed 7-6 at the half but scored on a short Joshua Soto touchdown run and two-point conversion in the third quarter to go ahead for good at 14-7.

Munday pulled within five by tacking Soto in the end zone for a safety and had the ball inside the Eagle 20 with under two minutes to go, but could not complete the comeback to fall to 0-2. "Backs against the wall, they did what we asked them to do," said Kirk of his defense, which came up with a huge stop.

TLCA dropped a 60-9 decision to Water Valley in the season opener but knew they had a chance this week against Munday. "We preached all week; just execute the game plan, and we’re gonna be fine. We did not execute our game plan last week, and we did this week, and it showed. That’s what we can do when we do what we’re asked to do," Kirk said.

The Eagles have another tough matchup with unbeaten Sterling City next week.

Munday will hit the road to battle 2-0 Morton.
